Intention
Orana (which means “welcoming”) Place operates each Friday at Lakes Anglican Church at Gorokan between 10am and 1pm. There are regularly 5 and sometimes as many as 9 parishioners involved in this outreach which aims to provide free hospitality to Samaritans ER clients and disadvantaged people in the Wyong Shire and to provide a safe place for social interaction.
Outcomes
The group certainly meets these aims as since commencing on 1st October, 2010 (until Christmas 2010) over 500 people have been served.
Financial
The group does not utilise any of the parish facilities as it is located in the Gorokan Church building but the Gorokan Parish provides the facilities free of charge. This is a valuable link between the two parishes. The Centre is privately funded, although $300 was provided by St James Parishioners towards the cost of a Christmas Party. There are many volunteers at the Centre and these are drawn from other churches and from the community.
