We sometimes despair at the state of the world. We notice, particularly, how standards are declining. What was once considered immoral, even scandalous, is now accepted as the norm, and we ask, “What can we do about it?” Today’s sermon from the Sermon on the Mount gives us an answer. Jesus’ teaching is revolutionary and, if we were to take it seriously, we could change the world. Sadly we don’t. In fact, confronting as it may be, the Church (that’s us) are in many ways responsible for the present day situation.
