The Apostle Paul stayed in Ephesus, which is in modern day Turkey, for over two years (see Acts 19:10) the longest he stayed in any place on his missionary journeys. Ephesus was the second largest city in the Roman Empire with a population of 250,000 and was a major trading centre with its port at nearby Miletus. In our passage today from Acts 20, Paul tearfully says his farewells and in verse 21 sums up his message that people, “must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus.”
