Pentecost Sunday. Pentecost was a Jewish Festival held 50 days after Passover. The Christian Church has taken it over to celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit to the followers of Jesus. The account of this is found in Acts 2 and is seen as the beginning of the church. The red colour usually associated with Pentecost represents both the flames of fire which accompanied the descending of the Spirit and also the joy associated with having Christ present with us. In many countries the day is so special that the next day (Monday) is a public holiday. In this sermon we will look at some aspects of the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
